Declaring the Major
About the major
The English Major requires the completion of a minimum of 31 credits (ten courses) in intermediate or advanced English courses.
English majors are encouraged to supplement their major coursework with collateral courses in the following areas:
- Classics
- Comparative literature
- Integrated liberal studies
- Literature in other languages, literature in translation
- English language and linguistics
- European and American history
- Art history
- Philosophy
- And others...
When to declare
The earlier you declare your major the greater your possibilities and options. We recommend that you declare your major as soon as you have completed the required 6 credits of introductory literature.
How to declare
Due to the retirement of our Undergraduate Advisor, Grace Krewson, we will be without a permanent advisor until early summer. For students who wish to declare a major in English, or who have questions about fall classes, please contact us after 1 June. For those with other questions, please contact either Cross-College Advising (if you are not a major) or L&S Advising. We will update this page soon with further information and news about our new English Advisor.
