Library Resources

Humanities bibliographer Yvonne Schofer has developed a vital collection of online resources for research in English at the UW-Madison. The "Top Ten Resources Every English Graduate Student Should Know About" list is a great place to start. This collection contains links to licensed-access resources available to all UW-Madison students, faculty, and staff as well as high-quality free resources on the world wide web. After the top-ten resources, the links are organized by subject area. The library system at UW-Madison has long pursued the best scholarly resources for its patrons--this page introduces graduate students to area-specific sites they will want to be very familiar with.

The Writing Center

The Writing Center is staffed by seven professional writing instructors and thirty-eight advanced doctoral students in English literature and composition studies. All instructors in the Writing Center are highly trained, expert readers and are qualified to offer help with writing in all disciplines and at all levels.

Since its start as the Writing Laboratory in 1969, the Writing Center at Madison has helped literally tens of thousands of University of Wisconsin students, both undergraduate and graduate, learn more about writing and has helped them successfully complete course papers, theses, dissertations, and articles for publication. To provide this help, the Writing Center offers individual instruction, non-credit classes, and instructional materials.

Departmental List of Proofreaders

The department maintains a list of proofreaders and editors for hire. Rates vary and are negotiated between editor and client. The editors and proofreaders on this list are not necessarily endorsed by the English department or the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
