The English Department is known across campus for its focus on great teaching. And it's not just our faculty members who win teaching awards. Our graduate students also routinely take the University's top teaching honors for their work as Teaching Assistants and Instructors. This year, our winners included Scot Barnet (UW-Madison Innovation in Teaching Award), Mark Lounibos (UW-Madison Capstone PhD Teaching Award), Rebecca Lorimer (Department's Early Excellence in Teaching Award), Katie Lynch (L & S Teaching Fellow Award), Kate Veira (L & S Teaching Award), Betsy Tremmel (Department's Excellence in ESL Teaching Award), David Plastrik (Department's English 100 Outstanding Teaching Award), Rob McAlear (Department's Excellence in English 100 Teaching Award), and Davis Brown (Department's Excellence in English 100 Teaching Award). Well done!

In addition, in recognition of her "exemplary promise as a future leader of higher education," Ph.D. Literary Studies student Tessa Desmond received the 2009 K. Patricia Cross Future Leaders Award from the Association of American Colleges and Universities. Congratulations, Tessa!
