TESOL
A Certificate in TESOL is offered to graduate, undergraduate or Special students who wish to teach English as a foreign or second language, normally in positions abroad.
ESL
Non-native speakers of English hoping to serve as teaching assistants in the Department of English will want to contact English as a Second Language to schedule the SPEAK test. ESL is also a resource for learning and presenting in the English-speaking classroom. .
Ph.D. Minor
Students can fulfill the interdisciplinary requirement of the Ph.D. minor either in other programs within this department, in another department, or through related courses spread across several departments.

Ad Hoc Prelim Exam Reading Lists Deadline
Literary Studies PhD students planning to sit for preliminary exams in August of 2010 should plan to submit their committee approved reading lists by October 27. Samples of previous lists are available in the Graduate Division office in 7195H Helen C. White.
